Next Destination: Macchu Picchu

After Ollantaytambo we went to the train station and commenced a beautiful ride into the heart of the Andes Mountains to a small town named Aguas Calientes.

The train station

We made it to Aguas Calientes and learned we would need to wake up really early the next day to catch the bus heading to Macchu Picchu.

After a very windy ride up a mountain on a dirt road that seemed not quite big enough for our bus, we made it to one of the seven wonders of the world! Unreal. This is DEFINITELY a destination to add to your bucket list!!!!

See that really big mountain in the background? That is Wahyna Picchu.  We hiked to the top of that. In order to do so we had to:

Climb up these stairs,

Squeeze through this hole,

(me in the cave after squeezing through that hole)

And duck under this rock. Finally we made it to the top:

Was it worth it? Yes, yes and YES!!!!!!
The trip back down gets even better....

After going back through the cave, down those unbelievably steep steps and under some more rocks we found this:

A ladder. Made out of wood. Propped up by stones I could pick up with one hand. And, it was wet and mossy. Great. (I hope you can hear the enthusiasm :P)

So we mustered up the courage (okay, okay, I was the only one who couldn't look down) and ventured down this ladder, our only means to the rest of the trail. When we got to the bottom, we found this:

Yes, that would be the remains of the PREVIOUS ladder....yikes.
