A Peek at Portland

This past weekend, Bryan attended an American Student Dental Association (ASDA) meeting in Portland, OR.  I was lucky enough to join him. We went to meetings all day Saturday, and then decided to get a quick look at Portland on Sunday. We woke up at 5 am, to be sure we could catch the MAX (their public transit), visit Washington Park, and make it back to the airport before our flight left.  The forecast for Sunday looked very promising for a sunny hike in the Hoyt Arboretum. 

We arrived to the park a bit earlier than expected.  As we walked around during the break of dawn in the empty park, we began to feel raindrops.

Good thing Bryan remembered umbrellas!  We continued along and found the Hoyt Arboretum.

A Vietnam Memorial provided a poignant experience to our explorations. Both Bryan and I were touched by the memorial.

                                      

 

As we walked around the memorial, the rain steadily picked up its pace.  Despite our increasingly wet shoes, socks, and back packs, we continued on our way.  We found a nice big tree to rest and stay dry under for about 20 minutes....Thank you tree :)

After 3 hours in the freezing cold rain, we decided to head back to the airport and stop to get some lunch. We had fun enjoying nature. Even though the trees weren't in bloom, we thought Washington Park was (is) very beautiful! We look forward to taking more trips when the park is more 'in season' and not so wet.
